The Chinese Temples Fund

The Chinese Temples Fund (CTF) is established by the Chinese Temples Committee (the Committee) in accordance with the subsidiary legislation of the Chinese Temples Ordinance (Chapter 153). Revenue of the CTF is mainly derived from temple management contract fee of the 24 temples directly administered by the Committee, donations from the public as well as investment income.

The CTF is first applied for the repair and maintenance of temples under the direct administration of the Committee and for the holding of customary ceremonies, any surplus may be transferred to the General Chinese Charities Fund (GCCF) which is also managed by the Committee.

The CTF accepts funding applications for holding customary ceremonies twice a year and annual application for temple repairs.

The General Chinese Charities Fund

According to the Chinese Temples Ordinance (Chapter 153), surplus of the CTF may be transferred to the GCCF for the purpose of meeting the daily operational expenses of the Committee and other charitable ends, e.g. relief of victims of disasters, improving the livelihood of the disabled, the elderly, those with chronic illness and the less privileged, improvement of education and medical care as well as other initiatives which can be classified as charity by the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department.

The GCCF also makes annual grants to the Home Affairs Department for disbursement of immediate financial assistance to persons of Chinese race who suffer from disasters or accidents, etc.

The GCCF accepts funding applications twice a year.
